CHEMISTRY OF STAR ANISE AND IT'S MEDICINAL USES

Scientific name:- Illicium verum
Family:- Schisandraceae
The major organic chemical compound present in star Anise is anethole.
                     

 
 
Medicinal properties:-
Antioxidant, antimicrobial antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal gastroprotective, antinociceptive.
 
Medicinal uses:-
 Star anise is a great source of antioxidants vitamin c and linalool, studies have shown that it can inhibit the development of cancers.
 Star Anise effectively fights fungal infections, particularly yeast infections the parasitic fungi 'Candia albicans'. C. Albicans lives in the throat, intestines, mouth, and genitals.
 research shows that anethole and other compounds in star Anise extract can treat candidiasis.
 Shikimic acid found in star anise fights against the influenza virus.
 Star anise is rich in antioxidant vitamins a and c thus preventing the progression of chronic diseases like aging and diabetics.
 It regulates blood sugar levels and acts as a pain reliever.
 It improves the appearance of skin and digestion.

REASON FOR ADDING GYPSUM IN CEMENT

upon mixing cement powder with water ,part of  the tricalcium aluminate and gypsum dissolved and react together forming ettringite . the ettringite crystal on the surface of the cement particals are so fine that they cannot bridge the gap between structure .this is the basis of the delay in solidification upon adding gypsum to cement . if we mix cement with water without adding gypsum the tricalcium aluminate immediately reacts with water to form calcium aluminate hydrate . which fills the gap between the cement particals with large crystals and leads to very rapid solidification of the cement slurry
